2022 Annual Student Competition

The Annual Student Competition is offered to all eight schools in the state that offer interior design programs. Each invited school may submit up to five winning projects.  This year’s submitting schools were Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Purdue West Lafayette, and Purdue Fort Wayne.

The focus and the partners for the project change yearly. This year’s project was a restaurant with a retail and branding component.  Students submitted a multi-page pdf document that told the full story of their design, from programming through conceptual and design development.

We are so grateful to ALL of the students that worked on this project! We are even more grateful for instructors Barb Young,  Emily McLaughlin, and Suining Ding for leading the students through the months-long process.

Thanks also to the sponsors who donated to the competition:  Daltile, ESL-Spectrum, Interface, and Sherwin-Williams for their generosity in funding the prize money.

Last but not least, a huge thank you to our judges, local design professionals working in the industry.  They evaluated the projects in a double-blind setting. Judges were Robin Bradford (Daltile)Kari Funston (arcDESIGN), Jae Park (Interface), and John Strachan (Great APG).  It takes a lot of time and energy to review all the presentations; thanks for giving back to the profession and supporting interior design education!
